Private Health Rebates are Back for Naturopathy

There’s good news coming for those of you who use naturopathy as part of your care.

Private health insurance rebates for naturopathy are officially on their way back. After several years off the table, the Federal Government has approved changes that allow health funds to once again include naturopathy and Western herbal medicine in their policies. Something previously not allowed since 2019.

This change was approved in July 2025. Currently, health funds are deciding how they will roll this out. Each insurer will set up their own provider recognition process and internal systems before making rebates available to clients.

So while rebates are not active just yet, the pathway is open. Health funds are expected to begin recognising approved naturopathy services from around April 2026, with rebates starting as each fund finalises its requirements.

We will continue to keep a close eye on updates as they are released and will let you know as soon as rebates are available to claim. We also recommend checking directly with your private health insurer when renewing your policy to see what is included.

It is encouraging to see naturopathy recognised again and we look forward to what this means for access, continuity of care, and choice for our clients.
