NATURAL TOOTHPASTE

NATURAL TOOTHPASTE

With all the artificial chemicals we consume and absorb on a daily basis, it is becoming even more important to make a concious effort to reduce our toxic load! There are many simple ways in which we can do this including switching to toxin free, natural and eco friendly house and self care products.  One simple thing we can all do is switch our current toothpaste to a more natural option!  We kmow how important it is to keep our teeth, gums and mouths healthy. There are so many great brands out there which are relatively inexpensive and allow us to keep our mouths healthy without exposing us to nasty chemicals.

Another more cost-effective option is to make your own toothpaste. Here is one of my favourite and simple recipes for home made toothpaste.

Simple, toxin-free toothpaste recipe:

Ingredients:

  • Bicarb soda
  • Water
  • Essential oil of your choise (1 drop)

Side note: make sure you use a good quality essential oil which is 100% pure without any added filler oils, (I personally use Doterra).

Steps:

  1. Add a ½ tea spoon of bicarb to a cup
  2. Add a little water (around 1 to 2 table spoons)
  3. Add 1 drop of your chosen essential oil. (Mint or lemon work well as does the on-guard blend from Doterra).
  4. Mix it all together with the head of your tooth brush so it is well combined
  5. Then brush your teeth by repetitibely dunking the head of your tooth brush into the mixture as needed.

You can either fill the glass up with more water at the end and use it as a mouth wash or simply rinse your mouth out afterwards.

TA DA! You should have a super clean and fresh teeth and mouth feel!

This recipe can be a tad strong for kids in which case you may need to add more water to dilute the solution or a ½ to 1 tea spoon of coconut oil.

*Make sure you brush your teeth gently as no extra force is needed for this toothpaste to clean your teeth.

*Do not eat or swallow your home made toothpaste. The oils are too strong for our tummys .

If making your own toothpaste just isn’t your thing, then here are the two natural brands (Weleda and Riddell Creek) I use which work just as well as your regular toothpaste. PLUS kids find these easier to use as they aren’t as strong. Enjoy!
