Hello Everyone,
Happy Easter!
With stress and fear being an almost inescapable part of our current environment I wanted to share some of the things that I use to help keep me happy and calm. I hope they will inspire you to find some of your own.
Tip 1 – Turn off/stop watching all fear based media sources
I have chosen to stop watching the news all together as I have noticed this seems to raise my stress levels. I recommend you try to at least limit your exposure to a weekly report or choose to get your updates via a less exaggerated source such as the Department of Health website.
Tip 2 – Exercise Daily
Due to most exercise outlets being closed keep it simple and go for a walk daily. You get the added benefit of sunshine which will boost your vitamin D.
Tip 3 – Check in with your loved ones
We are so lucky with technology today to make this step easy. Phone calls, text messages, emails, Skype and face time are all great ways to stay in touch.
Tip 4 – Eat your fruits and Veggies
One of the best ways to keep your body and immune system happy and healthy is to give it the vitamins and minerals it needs. Currently lots of people have more free time so why not become a master chef and experiment with foods you haven’t tried before, the fresher the better.
Tip 5 – Smile
This can be as personal as you want, as humans we are naturally empathetic. By surrounding ourselves with smiling and laughing faces we can’t help but smile along as well. This is a great time to pull out old photo albums, family videos or YouTube people with funny laughs.
Tip 6 – Sense of happiness
Out of the 5 senses smell is the strongest in the way that it integrates in our brains. Have you ever had a scent that literally takes you back to a happy memory? Try to think of a scent that does this for you and how you can surround yourself with it. Some of the scents that do this for me are fig leaves (I have a fig-scented candle) and Banana boat sun cream which takes me back to summer days with my family.
Tip 7 – Getting Grounded.
Grounding, also called earthing, is a therapeutic technique that involves doing activities that “ground” or reconnect you to the earth. This is as easy as walking bare foot on your front lawn or along the beach.
I hope these tips help you all find a bit more calm and happiness during these interesting times. Even picking 1 a day may help.
Be safe and well.
Yours in Health.
